Vienna City Marathon 2026 kicks off with a unique concert

The Vienna City Marathon (VCM) is Austria’s largest marathon and has taken place every spring in Vienna since 1984. From the very beginning, it has seen itself not only as a major sporting event, but as a running experience that uniquely combines culture and sport – right through the world’s capital of music. Year after year, the VCM blends endurance, enthusiasm, and the city’s cultural diversity into an unmistakable experience.

“Music and sport bring people together and are understood all over the world. By linking marathon running with classical music, we have been showcasing Vienna’s strengths for many years,” says VCM Managing Director Dominik Konrad.

In 2026, a marathon concert will be held for the first time: runners who are also musicians will have the unique opportunity to perform on stage with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. Among them is Aaron Gruen, Austria’s marathon record holder and an accomplished cellist. Under the baton of Tobias Wögerer, works by Brahms, Strauss, Mozart, Schrammel, and Lehár will be performed.
