The Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition was created to honour the artistic legacy of Maestro Evgeny Svetlanov — a musician whose life was defined by an unwavering dedication to orchestral music and to passing on his knowledge to future generations. In accordance with his wish expressed in his will, the Competition was established in 2007 through the commitment of his spouse, Nina Svetlanova, and his impresario and close friend, Marina Bower.
