Jukka-Pekka Saraste

Jukka-Pekka Saraste has long been recognised as one of the most distinguished conductors of his generation. Born in Heinola, Finland, he began his musical career as a violinist before studying conducting with Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. His artistry is closely associated with the symphonic repertoire of Beethoven, Bruckner, Sibelius, Mahler, Shostakovich and Stravinsky.
